Columbia man to spend 18 years in prison for deadly 2019 hit-and-run

A Columbia man pleads guilty to a deadly 2019 Columbia hit-and-run, and will spend 18 years in prison.

Lukas Evans entered his plea in court Tuesday to involuntary manslaughter, armed criminal action and leaving the scene of an accident. The judge gave him ten years in prison for the manslaughter charge, and four years apiece for the other two charges.

Evans, 22, was originally accused of second degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident. Police say Evans tried to pass someone in a no-pass zone on West Boulevard in February 2019. He crashed into Jordan Hoyt’s car head-on. The 37-year-old Hoyt died.
