The owner of a Columbia business that employed the motorcyclist who was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver last week is thanking the community for donations to the family.
25-year-old Skylar Maddox died last Tuesday. He worked at Gilbane Motorsports on Nebraska, which has posted details on Facebook about Tuesday’s celebration of life from 2-4. It will be at Waves Cider, next to the shop.
There are GoFundMe efforts to raise money for Maddox’s funeral arrangements.
72-year-old Susan Hanel remains jailed without bond today (Monday), charged with three felonies, including DWI, death of another.
Columbia Police say Hanel was northbound on Providence on Tuesday, when she entered the center turn lane at East Sexton and failed to yield when making a left turn. Police say Maddox was unable to avoid her vehicle and collided with the rear passenger side. He was ejected and was pronounced dead at a Columbia hospital. Gilbane Motorsports posted its memories of Maddox.
“Skylar started with us back in April of this year and has been a joy to work around. He was always here early and loved what he did.”
