A Columbia man charged in the high-profile September shooting death of a three-year-old child is set to appear in court Monday morning, via video.

28-year-old Larry Brownlee Jr. is charged with second degree murder and two other felonies for the child’s death.

Boone County Prosecutor Roger Johnson’s court filings indicate the child was shot in the stomach. Brownlee has several previous convictions, including assault and domestic assault. Since he’s a convicted felon he was not supposed to have a gun. Brownlee is jailed without bond, described by the Boone County Circuit Court as a danger to the community.

The Columbia Police Department’s two-page probable cause statement says the child’s mother told CPD investigators conflicting stories about what happened on September 24. The probable cause statement also says Brownlee did not remain on-scene at the hospital to speak to Columbia Police. Brownlee has pleaded not guilty in the case.
