Columbia city offices are closed for Veterans Day for the second straight year.
City spokeswoman Syndey Olsen tells 939 the Eagle that the city observed Veterans Day for the first time last year, after it was approved by the city council. City manager De’Carlon Seewood led the effort to add Veterans Day as a paid city holiday for the first time. Mr. Seewood says the city wants to recognize the many city employees and their families who have served our country.
“Their dedication, sacrifice and commitment enrich our community and inspire us all,” Mr. Seewood says.
The holiday will impact several city services. Residential curbside trash and recycling will not be collected today (Monday), and will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week. Columbia’s landfill is also closed today, and GoCOMO, Columbia’s bus system, is not operating today. Parking enforcement is also suspended.
