Columbia’s city council is set to vote tonight on a proposed new nine-hole disc golf course at Fairview Park.
The park is adjacent to west Columbia’s Fairview elementary school. Columbia Parks and Recreation officials say the disc golf course would be designed for beginners and youth. The city says the $15,000 project will utilize remaining funds from the 2020 Fairview park/Bonnie View phase two improvement project. The city council will hold a public hearing on the project tonight, and are then scheduled to vote on it. If the council approves the project, the city expects it to be done by the fall of this year.
The park, which is located at 1001 South Fairview road, has four tennis courts, a reservable shelter, restrooms, garden plots, a playground and soccer practice fields. The Columbia city council packet says the park has a connection to Bonnie View Nature Sanctuary and the Scott’s Branch trail.
The council packet notes the proposed project includes construction of nine concrete tee pads and the installation of nine disc golf baskets.
