Columbia police consider search of landfill in 2006 case

Columbia investigators are considering searching a local landfill after a man confessed to killing his wife and putting her body in a dumpster in 2006.

Police are working with the city’s solid waste utility to decide the best places in the northeast Columbia landfill to possibly look for evidence. The landfill on Peabody Road covers 107 acres.

Authorities in Wisconsin say Keith Comfort walked into a police department there over the weekend and admitted to killing his wife, Megan Shultz, 13 years ago. It had been a missing person case after Comfort said she had walked away from their home on Amelia Street.
