Columbia police work with private lab in Baby Doe case

The Columbia Police Department is partnering with a private lab on a 2019 “Baby Doe” case.

The decomposed remains of an infant were found on Aug. 15, 2019 in a backpack at McKnight Tire near Providence and Vandiver.

Othram, a private lab, tests DNA for evidence.

“Traditional methods used by detectives to identify have been unsuccessful in this case, including submission of evidence to state labs,” said CPD Lt. Matt Stephens in a press release Thursday. “By using forensic genealogy testing, we believe the services provided by Othram to be a viable option in identifying the remains of the infant.”
