Tuesday is the first day of classes in fast-growing Columbia Public Schools (CPS), which is now Missouri’s fourth-largest school district.

CPS’ Michelle Baumstark says the district expects more than 18,000 students. About 8,000 of them will ride school buses this year, and CPS is urging you to slow down around schools and in school zones and when buses load and unload students.
The district says all classroom teaching spots are filled and that they’re still looking for hourly positions in custodial and nutrition services and paraprofessionals.
