Columbia Regional Airport reopens after runway repairs

Columbia Regional Airport reopened to all air traffic Saturday morning.

No flights had gone out of the airport since Monday, when the crosswind runway was closed for emergency repairs. The crown of the runway, which helps drain off water, was too bumpy for carriers during takeoffs and landings. The main runway closed for a couple months of scheduled work on Apr. 1.

The city says construction crews have finished their work to smooth the crosswind runway. Airlines like American and United could resume their service on Monday, Apr. 15.
