Columbia school board considering weapon detectors

The Columbia Public Schools board of education members are expected to vote at their April 8 meeting on purchase of weapons detection equipment for three of the high schools. Administrators are recommending the purchase of 12-15 of the portable units at a total cost of about $261,000 The units would be deployed at Hickman, Rock Bridge and Battle high schools but are lightweight, portable, run on battery power and could be easily moved for use at sporting events or graduation ceremonies.
