(AUDIO) Columbia school board talks re-opening plan in special session

Columbia’s superintendent has another update for the school board on Tuesday afternoon. Peter Stiepleman will lay out his latest plan to bring some students back for in-person learning.

CPS has started the year pretty much all virtual. Officials say they have been encouraged by the relatively low coronavirus numbers in Columbia lately.

Past reopening plans have called for in-person classes to happen in phases, with mostly younger kids going first. It would be a hybrid model, two days a week in-person and the rest online.

The CPS board plans to officially vote on the reopening plan during its regular Oct. 12 meeting.

A Columbia parent is part of a group organizing petition drive asking the public school district to hold in-person learning five days a week. Kelly Hoover joined Wake Up Columbia on Monday:
