Columbia school board votes on fall class changes Monday

Columbia’s school board appears ready on Monday night to slow down reopening plans.

The board votes on whether to delay the start of school until after Labor Day, and only offer in-person classes two days a week.

“It is not ideal, and every one of these decisions is like the least bad one,” Superintendent Peter Stiepleman says on Wake Up Columbia. “I wish we could be back. But at this time, based on the data that we have and the recommendations we’re receiving, we can’t be fully.”

Boone County health officials told Stiepleman and the board of education last week there are too many new coronavirus cases every day right now for them to recommend having in-person class five days a week, like what was proposed in June.

The Wake Up Columbia interview with Dr. Stiepleman is here.
