Columbia school board voting to change return date for elementary students

The Columbia Public Schools board of education looks at a change to when elementary students would return to in-person learning.

That date would go from Jan. 11 to Jan. 19 if the board approves it on Monday night. That matches up with the scheduled return date for Columbia middle schoolers and high schoolers. CPS has been doing almost all remote learning since March because of coronavirus concerns.

The board is also looking at spending $1.2 million to put air ionization purifiers in district buildings. Those purifiers help slow the spread of COVID-19.
