A popular Columbia sporting goods store that’s closing its doors after 63 years in operation once had stores on the Mizzou campus and in several neighboring communities.
Red Weir Athletic Supplies is closing its store on Columbia’s West Broadway on Saturday December 23. Owner Mike Weir, the son of founder Red Weir, says his father opened the store in their home’s basement in 1959 before moving it downtown to Broadway, next to Buchroeders. Mr. Weir tells 939 the Eagle that Red Weir Athletic Supplies at one time also had stores on the Mizzou campus and in Jefferson City, Sedalia and Raytown.
The owners of Red Weir are retiring, and they thank you for your patronage for the past 63 years. Red Weir’s slogan has been to “wear what the pros wear, and shop where all the teams shop.”
