Missouri’s Probation and Parole Board is expected to revoke the parole of a Columbia man who barricaded himself inside a home on Monday for six hours before surrendering.
Columbia Police have arrested 28-year-old Ronald Powell on multiple warrants. Online court records indicate he was released from prison earlier this year, and is currently on parole for numerous felonies, including resisting arrest, stealing and possession of a controlled substance.
ABC-17’s Nia Hinson from our news partner KMIZ reports Powell was wanted on 11 felony charges when he was arrested. The Columbia Police Department’s SWAT and crisis negotiation teams responded, and Ms. Hinson reports police also used gas and drones during the standoff.
Powell is charged with several felonies for an August incident where he’s accused of grabbing kitchen utensils and hitting a woman with them. The Columbia Police Department’s two-page probable cause statement says Powell then allegedly grabbed a knife and threatened to stab the victim. Court documents indicate someone’s mother walked in during that incident and protected the victim. Powell will be arraigned via video on those charges this afternoon at 1, before Boone County Judge Stephanie Morrell.
