Columbia teen charged in drive-by shooting expected to make his first court appearance on Tuesday

A Columbia teenager charged with Saturday afternoon’s drive-by shooting on Orchard Lane remains jailed without bond this morning, charged with three felonies.

Boone County prosecutors have charged 19-year-old Marquez Elam with first degree assault, armed criminal action and shooting from a motor vehicle.

The drive-by shooting left the victim with life-threatening injuries, and the investigation continues. Our news partner ABC-17 reports surveillance video from the home where the shooting happened show that Elam was in the area at the time of the incident.

ABC-17 reports the victim suffered critical leg injuries, from the gunshot wound.

Online court records reviewed by 939 the Eagle show Elam also faces drug charges from an earlier incident, and he failed to appear in court for those charges on March 31. A warrant was issued that day for his arrest, and the online court records show he was released from jail on his own recognizance after posting bond on Wednesday. That was three days before Saturday’s shooting.
