Columbia will have election Aug. 6 on sales tax

The Columbia City Council voted Monday to call a special election on Aug. 6 for renewal of a quarter-center sales tax the funds capital improvements. The tax was first approved for 10 years in 2005 and renewed in 2015. It expires in 20225. Capital improvements include projects for the fire and police departments and improvements to streets and buildings. The tax would generate about $125 million dollars over the 10 years.
