The council will vote tonight to formally call April’s municipal election. Mayor Barbara Buffaloe will face two challengers in April’s municipal election: journalism professor Tanya Heath and businessman Blair “Murph” Murphy, who owns Johnston Paint and Decorating. Mayor Buffaloe is seeking her second term. She beat businessman Randy Minchew by about 800 votes in 2022.

Columbia third ward council member Roy Lovelady is not seeking a second term in April. He’ll be replaced by Jacque Sample, who chairs the city’s disability commission. Sample is unopposed in April. Voters in Columbia’s fourth ward will choose between incumbent Nick Foster and Ron Graves in April. Graves works as the chief of the center for Development and Civic Engagement with Columbia’s Truman VA hospital.

Columbia trash collection is also delayed by one day for the rest of the week, due to the holiday. That means you’ll see trash trucks in Columbia on Saturday morning.
