Columbia’s mayor, the city council, city manager De’Carlon Seewood and department directors are traveling this morning to Camdenton’s Old Kinderhook, where they’ll have a two-day council retreat.

They’ll be tackling numerous topics, including council roles, priorities for the council members and the city’s strategic plan. Columbia city council members will spend time with each department director to understand operational context, and staff will discuss current challenges and opportunities.

And the 1991 movie “City Slickers” will be discussed, where Curly, played by Academy-award winning actor Jack Palance, talks about the “one thing.” During the retreat, each Columbia city council member will share the “one thing” they hope to see through to fruition in the next two years. Mr. Palance won an Oscar in 1992 for best supporting actor.

The two-day retreat begins this morning at 10.
