Columbia’s city manager says if the city doesn’t tell its story, someone else will.

Columbia’s council plans a Monday evening work session at 6 to discuss city communications. City spokeswoman Sydney Olsen tells 939 the Eagle that Mr. Seewood and she will speak at the work session.

City manager De’Carlon Seewood says strong public communication will allow the city to control the narrative regarding its mission and achievements. He’s recommending the creation of a communications department, including a new full-time communications director.

The council will hear a 15-page report during the work session that recommends a newsroom model approach.
