A Columbia businessman who’s been acquitted on charges of trying to have his ex-wife killed describes the legal system as corrupt.

Judge Steven Ohmer found Mehrdad Fotoohighiam not guilty, following this week’s bench trial at the Boone County Courthouse. Fotoohighiam spoke to our news partner ABC-17 minutes after being released from jail. He tells ABC-17’s Erika McGuire that he’s homeless and has no place to go.

“They took more than $10-million of my money and assets. They sold my house, my office building then my rental properties, and the assets and the real estate and so on,” he says.

Prosecutors said he also plotted to kill Boone County Judge Jeff Harris, and Fotoohighiam has been acquitted on that as well. He says he wants to work with state lawmakers to reform the criminal justice system.
