Columbia’s I-70 Providence road overpass to be demolished this weekend

State transportation officials say Columbia’s I-70 Providence road overpass will be demolished and removed this weekend.

The state Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says demolition begins Friday evening at 9 and that demolition and removal should be done by Sunday morning at 9. MoDOT says the pedestrian bridge will also be removed.

If you’re driving on I-70 near Providence this weekend, it will narrow to one lane and you’ll be directed up and over the ramps at Providence and back onto I-70.

MoDOT plans a new diamond interchange at Columbia’s I-70 and Providence, along with additional turn lanes on the I-70 off-ramps at Providence.

What it means: You can expect backups this weekend near Columbia’s I-70 and Providence road interchange.
