Mayor Barbara Buffaloe chairs the group’s Environment Committee and has been active in the area of climate change. The U.S. Conference of Mayors says the meeting’s main purpose is to adopt policy resolutions that guide the organization.

939 the Eagle’s Mike Murphy, who publishes Comobuz, reports Mayor Buffaloe’s to Florida is raising some eyebrows. Mike reports critics say the U-S Conference of Mayors operates like a lobbying organization, but without transparency.

Murphy also reports that Columbia taxpayers are paying for the Mayor’s travel to Tampa. The registration fee for the conference is $1,500. Murphy reports Mayor Buffaloe’s air travel cost $801 and that four nights at the Tampa Marriott conference center runs about $250 per night.
