Columbia’s mayor says she’ll focus in her second term on opening the opportunity homeless campus, fully staffing CPD and addressing safety downtown to make all residents feel welcome there.
Mayor Barbara Buffaloe will be sworn-in for her second term Thursday afternoon at 5 at city hall. The council will hold a special meeting for the swearing-in ceremony. Columbia voters re-elected Mayor Buffaloe last week. She received 14,073 votes, while businessman Blair Murphy received 10,663 votes. Journalism instructor Tanya Heath finished a distant third with 779 votes. It was the most expensive mayoral race in Columbia history.
Fourth ward councilman Nick Foster will be sworn-in for his second term. He beat challenger Ron Graves last week. Newly-elected Columbia third ward councilwoman Jacque Sample will also be sworn-in on Thursday. She replaces council member Roy Lovelady, who did not seek re-election. Lovelady will be recognized for his service.
The city will also hold a reception after Thursday’s swearing-in ceremony. The reception will take place in city hall’s conference rooms. You’re invited to attend both the ceremony and the reception.
