Columbia’s city council plans a special meeting on Thursday afternoon to swear-in two members.

City spokeswoman Sydney Olsen tells 939 the Eagle that Thursday’s special meeting will take place at 5 pm at city hall. Sixth ward city councilwoman Betsy Peters, who was re-elected, will receive the oath of office, along with newly-elected second ward councilwoman Lisa Meyer. Ms. Meyer defeated Robert Schreiber III by about 350 votes last Tuesday. Her priorities are public safety and getting a fully-staffed CPD.

Columbia Police assistant chief Jeremiah Hunter tells 939 the Eagle that CPD is currently 37 officers short. Ms. Olsen also says there will be a short reception on Thursday, where you’ll be able to speak to the new council members.
