Columbia’s city council recognized outgoing mayor pro tem and second ward city councilwoman Andrea Waner at last night’s meeting. They also heard a two-page report about the eight applicants to replace her on the council.

Councilwoman Waner will resign her seat tomorrow (Wednesday) because she’s moving to a new home outside her ward. Waner’s term expires in April. She announced this year that she wouldn’t be seeking re-election in 2024, to focus on her health after being diagnosed with eye cancer.

Eight candidates have applied to fill the remaining four months of her term. Those eight are Susan Renee Carter, Rachel Proffitt, Lisa Evelyn Anne Meyer, William Moyes, Cornelia Williams, Frederick Saffold, Robert Schreiber and Lucio Bitoy IV.

Columbia’s city council will hold a special meeting Monday evening at 5. City spokeswoman Sydney Olsen tells 939 the Eagle that they’ll appoint someone to the position at that time.
