Columbia’s city council is set to vote Monday evening on a bill to add two full-time fire battalion chiefs to support the city’s continued population growth. The cost would be about $155,000.

One new position would be the Columbia Fire Battalion chief of emergency medical services, which would coordinate an effective basic and emerging paramedic program. The city says the Missouri Department of Health mandates dedicated oversight. The other position would be the Columbia Fire Battalion Chief of Special Operations, which would oversee the department’s growing response needs in hazardous materials, water and complex technical rescue operations.

Tonight’s council meeting begins at 7.
