A household name in sporting goods for Columbia and mid-Missouri residents for the past 63 years is closing its doors next week.
Red Weir Athletic Supplies, which opened its doors in 1960, will be closing its store on Columbia’s West Broadway on December 23. A sign posted on the store’s front door says the owners are retiring, and that they thank customers for their patronage for their past 63 years.
Red Weir’s slogan has been to “wear what the pros wear, and shop where all the teams shop.” The company’s business has been impacted in recent years by the addition of Academy Sports and Dick’s Sporting Goods in Columbia.
