Columbia’s school board to be briefed on status of nature school on Monday

Construction is scheduled to begin on the Boone County Nature School this summer.

Columbia’s school board will hear a detailed presentation on the project’s status at Monday night’s meeting. CPS says it values the continued partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation, and is committed to supporting the nature school.

CPS has committed $2 million for the school’s construction, while the Missouri Department of Conservation has committed $1 million. The community is trying to raise $1.5 million, and the fundraising goal is 93 percent complete.

The district plans to continue middle school science and fifth grade trips to the school this fall, and full nature school programming for all Boone County fifth graders should be available in 2023, according to the school board packet.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 6:30.
