CPS spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark tells 939 the Eagle that there have been about 22 applicants so far. CPS has hired the Missouri School Boards Association (MSBA) to support the search for a new superintendent. The district took applications for superintendent until January 5, and the board will review the applications this week. Ms. Baumstark says semifinalists will be screened during the week of January 27, and that the board will interview finalists during the week of February 10.

Dr. Chris Belcher is CPS’ interim superintendent through the remainder of the school year, following the leadership change with the departure of former superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood.

Ms. Baumstark briefed Columbia-area business leader in December at the monthly meeting of Columbia Regional Economic Development Incorporated (REDI) board, and she says CPS is a very desirable place.
