Columbia’s veteran health director to retire after a quarter of a century in the position

Columbia and Boone County’s longtime public health director will retire in October.

Columbia and Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) director Stephanie Browning announced her retirement this morning, after serving as director for 25 years.

She began her position in 1999. As PHHS director, Browning serves residents in Columbia and other cities and rural areas in Boone County. Director Browning says it’s been an immense honor to serve the Boone County community for the past 25 years.

Columbia city manager De’Carlon Seewood describes Ms. Browning as the guiding force behind PHHS’ progress in the past 25 years. Mr. Seewood says Stephanie Browning’s vision, leadership and unwavering commitment to public health “have profoundly shaped our successes and improved countless lives in Columbia and Boone County.”
