Subfreezing temperatures have prompted Columbia officials to open the Wabash station downtown Friday night, starting at 7. That is because the National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting cold weather below 15 degrees.

The overnight warming center is for individuals unable to access local emergency services.

The Wabash station generally houses between 15-24 people on cold nights.
