Commissioner says Cole sales tax renewal was important

The half-cent sales tax that passed last week in Cole County is not just designed to pave gravel roads.

Commissioner Jeff Hoelscher says that has been a big part of it.

“We’ve had some roads that were essentially goat paths that we’ve went in, we’ve made them safe,” Hoelscher says. “School buses are meeting garbage trucks on these roads, and you need to have them wide enough.”

Proposition A renews the tax for another five years. Voters have backed the tax every time since the 1980’s.
