Boone County commissioners approved the receipt of $2.5 million in state funding this week to help build its new public safety childcare center. The 10,000 square foot center is planned for the county’s public safety campus on the north side of Columbia. The state funds will cover about half of the construction costs. The facility will make 24-hour, 7-day childcare available for first responders. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2025 and be completed by early 2026.
