Conservation agent on mushroom hunting hoax

Someone on social media is probably just trying to keep you away from his spot.

A post made the rounds this week falsely claiming the state is planning to ban mushroom hunting on public lands, and would make you get a license in other places.

Missouri Department of Conservation agent Tom Strother says on Wake Up Columbia you don’t even need permission to sell morels.

“If somebody wants to hunt mushrooms on private properties and collect them and offer them for sale that’s common for folks to do that.”

Strother says the one exception is you cannot sell mushrooms you found in conservation areas.
