A Columbia woman convicted of killing her husband in a Montgomery County snake barn is heading to prison for 16 years.
Boone County Circuit Judge Kevin Crane sentenced Lynlee Renick on Monday, saying she is lucky the jury recommended only 16 years. They could have recommended a life sentence for the second degree murder conviction.
Our news partner ABC-17 quotes Judge Crane as telling Renick that “I just hope you don’t kill again.” Lynlee Renick was also convicted of armed criminal action involving the 2017 death of her husband, Ben.
Missouri Assistant Attorney General Kevin Zoellner told jurors in December that Lynlee killed her husband for money, sex and freedom. Defense attorneys have said that co-defendant Michael Humphrey of Jefferson City killed Ben Renick: Humphrey testified against Lynlee Renick during her trial and has been convicted of second degree murder.
Lynlee Renick’s trial was broadcast live nationwide on Court TV.
