Columbia leaders say they’ll continue to speak to United Airlines about future opportunities at Columbia Regional Airport (COU).
City spokeswoman Sydney Olsen is reacting to the announcement from United that they’re indefinitely suspending flights from COU, effective in January. Chicago-based United cites limited resources and staffing impacts caused by the ongoing pandemic.
COU is one of eight locations impacted by United’s indefinite suspension. United currently offers twice daily service from Columbia Regional to O’Hare.
Columbia spokeswoman Olsen tells 939 the Eagle that there’s always the possibility of United returning to COU, if the airline is able to have adequate resources and stablilize the impacts of the pandemic.
Dallas-based American still has five daily flights out of COU: three to Dallas and two to O’Hare.
