The Columbia City Council sets up a decision on whether to change the name for an east-side street that’s dealt with a lot of crime.
A developer is asking the city to change a one-mile stretch of Rice Road, east of Ballenger Ln. to Lake of the Woods, to Geyser Boulevard.
The planning and zoning commission rejected the idea on Nov. 7. The 6-2 majority said the name change probably would not help crime in that area, or boost marketability of new home sites.
The city council has the final say. Members on Monday night advanced the idea to a probable vote in a couple weeks.
