A Columbia city councilman has reported himself to the Missouri Ethics Commission.
Ian Thomas agreed last year to champion a developer’s project, if that developer made a donation to the Columbia Community Land Trust. The city’s attorney says that would have been an illegal deal.
Thomas tells 93.9 The Eagle the developers agree with his concerns about a lack of affordable housing in Columbia. Their plan could not be changed to include some affordable housing units because the Planning and Zoning Commission had already approved it though. He says that led to the idea of making a payment to the community land trust.
Thomas reported himself to the ethics commission last November.
