The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) tells 939 the Eagle that the investigation into Friday’s murder of a Columbia Rock Bridge high school employee at a rest stop near Chattanooga “remains active and ongoing at this time.”

30-year-old Micah McElmurry was arraigned Tuesday in Tennessee and remains jailed without bond for the murder of his father, 55-year-old Michael Woods. Woods was Rock Bridge’s home-school communicator.

The suspect’s bond hearing is scheduled for today (Wednesday).

Meantime, court documents from Marion County, Tennessee obtained by 939 the Eagle reveal few details about Friday’s murder. The three-page court document says McElmurry killed his father “by shooting him at least one time” at the I-24 rest area, which is about 15 miles from the Tennessee-Georgia border.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) says Michael Woods Jr. was pronounced dead in a rest area bathroom. Court documents say that the suspect had a revolver when he was detained by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Hundreds of people turned out for a Memorial Day vigil for Mr. Woods at Rock Bridge’s stadium.
