COVID-19 Update (Sept. 8)

After blowing away the daily coronavirus case record on Saturday, Boone County fell back to new normal levels following the holiday weekend.

Officials added 51 positives on Tuesday. As usual, most of those are college aged. That follows a record 221 positives on Saturday.

Dozens were released from isolation over the weekend, and active cases fell to 1,055. Hospitalizations are up to 50, which is the highest that number has been during the pandemic, but are still well below capacity.

The University of Missouri announced Tuesday that everyone must wear a face covering on campus, whether they are inside or outside or alone. The school reported 280 new cases among students since Friday. Active cases rose to 658.

Cole County reported 43 cases over the holiday weekend, as well as 20 new cases Tuesday. Another 44 have recovered, bringing active cases up to 142.

Callaway County confirmed 20 new cases since Friday. Eight have recovered, and active cases are up to 117.

Missouri added 773 new cases on Monday, and two COVID-19 deaths. State health officials said they added 89 deaths from June through August over the weekend because of reporting delays. There are now 1,661 deaths statewide that are blamed on COVID-19. The positivity rate on virus tests is at a high point of 13.8%.
