A recent surge in positive COVID-19 cases in the Southern Boone R-1 school district in Ashland has prompted school officials to announce that classes will have virtual learning Thursday and Friday.
Southern Boone R-1 cites staffing issues and substitute teacher shortages. The district website shows there are currently 11 active positive staff cases, along with 13 active positive student cases. The majority of positive cases for both staff and students are at the primary school.
The district plans to return to in-seat instruction on Monday. In the meantime, food service will be provided to those who sign up, and there are a limited number of hotspots for students who don’t have internet access at home.
