CPD expands jurisdiction for July 4th

Both the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and Columbia Police Department went to added lengths to make sure a repeat of the 2018 4^th of July fireworks war on Demaret Drive didn’t repeat itself this year.

According to a report from ABC17 News, the Sheriff’s Department commissioned CPD to expand its jurisdiction for the 4^th, and officers were able to respond to calls outside Columbia city limits if necessary.

CPD interim chief Geoff Jones said the measure wasn’t put in just to handle fireworks wars, but the department had planned for that possibility.
