CPD: Remains found in Columbia park could belong to Mengqi Ji

Columbia police said Thursday night that human remains found in Rock Bridge Memorial Park could belong to a missing Columbia mother.

Police were investigating at Rock Bridge Memorial Park Thursday afternoon at around 1 p.m. after a hiker spotted the remains in the park. Police say the remains included personal property that belonged to Mengqi Ji, like a driver’s license, credit cards and bank records. They say that DNA tests still need to be performed in order to confirm the true identity of the remains.

Mengqi Ji has been missing since October 2019. Her husband, Joseph Elledge, is in jail awaiting trial on a first-degree murder charge. Prosecutors say Elledge strangled Mengqi Ji to death, then got rid of her body. Elledge has pleaded not guilty.

  1. This is not commenting on guilt of anyone. It is simply a comment on the prosecutors ego driven idea to spend excess of $1million tax dollars on a wild goose chase. They had no evidence to search in the river. A cell phone ping has been proven as unreliable in the past. What this does prove is we as citizens have no chance if an ego driven maniac of a prosecutor, with no regulations on what they are allowed to do, gets ahold of a case that they think could help their reputation. It’s example of how to really screw up the job they were elected to and I hope to see the entire office go under review for this. And hats off to the john q public proving once again we can do a better job for nothing.
