Why is the Columbia school district having classes Tuesday?
Superintendent Peter Stiepleman says the district had put in enough hours of school to meet state requirements, but not enough days.
“If we find ourselves in a position like this next year and we have the number of hours, we don’t have to make up that last day. But this time we do.”
Stiepleman says state law is changing starting in July to say that you just have to meet the required hours of class, and the number of days does not matter.
