(AUDIO) CPS redistricting proposals expected in December

The consultant looking at redistricting for Columbia Public Schools told the board of education on Monday night to expect proposals in December.

Scott Leopold said he would consider enrollment data and feedback from several focus groups over the next two months.

CPS is opening a new middle school on Sinclair Road in the fall of 2020. The new boundary lines for middle and high schools will take effect then.

Some parents are asking for their kids to be grandfathered in to their current building track when new district boundaries take effect. Superintendent Peter Stiepleman says it’s an emotional debate.

“You want, in your heart, to be able to make everything work for everybody,” Stiepleman says. “You have to see if it actually works. Because of our growth, will we be in the same spot four years from now?”
