CPS school board candidate weighs in on mask requirements

A Columbia Public Schools parent running for school board in April says she would not vote to require mask-wearing for students.

Andrea Lisenby says mandated masks would hurt the development of students.

“We have information that cloth masks are just not effective, and so based on the pediatricians and other specialists that I’ve talked to, the risk of wearing a mask outweighs the benefit,” said Lisenby.

Andrea Lisenby says on Wake Up Columbia that if elected, she would prioritize creating good parent-teacher relationships in the district. She is one of four candidates running for two open spots on the school board.

Columbia Public Schools is under a temporary mask requirement until Feb. 4.
