Most local roads had re-opened by Thursday morning after issues with flooding and crashes during Wednesday’s storms.
Some of those storms hit a severe level in the afternoon, with heavy rain, strong winds, and a little hail. Columbia Regional Airport recorded 1.05″ of rain. There was 2.02″ recorded at Sanborn Field on the University of Missouri campus.
Interstate 70 alone had several slowdowns in mid-Missouri because of accidents on Wednesday. A big one a little after 7 a.m. shut down the westbound lanes at the Missouri River bridge near Rocheport for more than an hour. A car hydroplaned, leading to a wreck involving two cars and three semis. The drivers of the two cars, Jerelle Jones of Columbia and Logan Wojcik of Hannibal, suffered minor injuries.
