State transportation officials are alerting motorists to expect traffic backups during Halloween weekend near mid-Missouri’s Kingdom City, as crews demolish the old Highway 54 bridges over I-70.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) says the demolition will begin at 7 pm on Friday October 30 and will end by 5 am on Monday November 2.

MoDOT says crews will be demolishing and removing the two no-longer-used bridges in the middle of the new roundabout at I-70 and Highway 54. Both directions of I-70 will narrow to one lane in Kingdom City and you’ll be directed up and over the ramps at 54 and back onto I-70.

MoDOT says traffic on Highway 54 will NOT have access across I-70: they’ll be detoured elsewhere. The work is part of MoDOT’s $405-million project to rebuild and expand I-70 from Kingdom City to Columbia.
