CrimeStoppers board president on fielding anonymous tips

There can be lots of fear involved in reporting crime information to law enforcement officers. But John Fields, the Board of Directors President for CrimeStoppers in Columbia, says anyone who calls their number to give tips can remain completely anonymous.

“I’ve worked crime scenes where I’ve seen people standing in a crowd, and you can tell they want to talk, you can tell they want to say something, and the hard thing is trying to get them to come forward,” said Fields on Wake Up Columbia.

Fields said that CrimeStoppers also pays people for tips that lead to an arrest. He recalls one tip, which led to the arrests of some escapees from Columbia’s Reality House, was worth more than $1,000.

The number for CrimeStoppers in Columbia is 573-875-TIPS.
